Vista - HP scanner won't work w/ Vista

I have a 32 bit Vista OS w/ a HP 6310 all in one printer. We use a router so
both computers can use the printer and internet. My other computer is on XP.
The printer and fax work for both computers but the scanner won't work w/
vista. I get the message that no hp devices detected when I try open the
solution center. I spent 2 hours of work time w/ an online hp tech but no
help there..... Does anyone have a solution??? THANKS!

Which computer is the "Office Jet 6310" (you forgot to tell us the model) attached to?
Have you downloaded the Vista Drivers for this printer?

It is a HP OfficeJet 6310 all in one. I bought it last Fall. I installed
the disk for Vista that came with the printer. Hope that answered the
question. I'm not a computer guru.....

I don't know if this is right, but regarding to Microsoft, You can't share a
scanner in Windows XP.
I have my scanner connected to the Vista machine and I can't find a way to
reach it from my XP.
My guiess, and it will be, is that You have to have a real cabled network to
make it work.

I HAD the same problem ... Discovered that Vista is not totally compatible
with some scanner/printers ... although, a general work around for Vista
users is to scan via Windows Paint program (File > From Scanner or Camera)
.... works fine for me on Vista...

I tried that solution also.... On the Paint program the option of 'from
scanner or camera' is greyed out. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I
have an email in with HP to get their input again.

As to the suggestions and comments that it's hardly MS's fault, they are to
blame just as much as the vendors. MS shouldn't be fielding OS that isn't
backwards compatible. Like you I loaded the 32 bit verison, I can run 64 but
didn't want to deal with comatability issues.... oh well.

If you happen to hear from HP or figure it out on your own, please post, I'd
love to have my scanner working again.
