| | Change Desktop Background This happened to me also. I installed a few programs that I guess Vista did not like, and in the process somewhere my ability to apply a picture file as a desktop image disappeared. I have uninstalled all the programs, but still have the problem. The computer mfg (Toshiba) tech support told me I would have the use the install disk that came with the laptop and install Vista again, wiping out everything I have on the computer. Kinda drastic just to recover the use of desktop images. But then I called a MS support line, and they told me the same thing! I tried the svc /scannow, and received the same msg as Mark. Installing Vista again will be my last resort measure, but for the problem, it seems like a rather drastic solution. I ain't giving up yet, though. If anything else comes up as a resolution, please post. Thanks. | | Re: Change Desktop Background Yes, I tried that also, but no worky. I'm still searching the net and other resources to see if someone has a fix. It's frustrating, but I've read that using pictures for desktop wallpaper wastes memory anyhow. (=: I know it has something to do with installing a program that Vista didn't like, or wasn't completely compatible with Vista. Most likely a graphics program, as I don't think any other program would tweak with the settings and get under Vista's radar. If I discover the cause and a cure, I'll be sure to post back.
