| | Prompt to confirm a program uninstall Yesterday, I accidentally uninstalled an audio program because I clicked a name from the list of installed programs not realizing that just clicking it would start an uninstall without the usual "are you sure you want to uninstall" prompt I was used to in XP. I'm in a mess now because I went to do a system restore to restore the accidentally deleted program only to find out that no automatic restore points are being created--wonderful! So I have two questions--does Vista have an option so that you will be prompted for an uninstall? Why aren't automatic restore points being created? The program thatwas uninstalled was Conextant Audio (or something like that--I madly jotted down a name before it was gone forever). All help greatly appreciated. Arlene |

| | RE: Prompt to confirm a program uninstall The thing is, you go through a few steps before uninstalling the program, so it should not be a case of implementing a prompt but making sure you the user select the right application. Windows can't tell which application is your favorite, just be a bit more careful. What is the name of the application you accidentally installed? It seriously cannot be gone forever, especially not in this day and age. -- Andre Blog | http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Windows Vista Quick Start Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog...3DB!9709.entry "Arlene" wrote: Quote: > Yesterday, I accidentally uninstalled an audio program because I clicked a > name from the list of installed programs not realizing that just clicking it > would start an uninstall without the usual "are you sure you want to > uninstall" prompt I was used to in XP. | | RE: Prompt to confirm a program uninstall I got it back after an online chat with HP. It was the Conextant High Definition Audio Drive. They provided a link to an instant ftp download. You can bet I'll be more careful, but it seems like it just makes good sense to always prompt a user a second time for verification of any significant change such as an uninstall. | | Re: Prompt to confirm a program uninstall If you have a restore point before the uninstall, restore your system to that point and you will see your application as it has never had any trouble. It is ironic, you are asking for an additional click but some of the people here are whining that there are too many clicks.
