Folder Size

In the past when I called up My Documents I was presented with a Folder,
which occupied about one third of my screen. Recently My Documents Folder is
being presented so large it occupies the whole of the screen and I cannot
find anything anywhere to reduce its size! In addition some of my other
Folders are also being presented sometimes in a format which fills the whole
of the screen. Will someone please advise me how to revert to the format of
My Documents Folder, which occupied only one third of the screen. Thank you.

Re: Folder Size

Hi, Zygy.

You might not have noticed that WinXP's "My Documents" has been renamed to
simply "Documents" in Vista. And it's not simply a name change. The
organizational structure has changed. You should now find your documents in
C:\Users\Zygy\Documents. When you click Start, you should see Documents in
the right-hand column of the Start Menu, under your user name. Click that
to see a list of your documents, or right-click Documents, then click
Explore to open that folder in Windows Explorer.

The name "My Documents" still exists, but only as a "Junction", pointing to
the new location, for the benefit of legacy applications that have not yet
been updated to the new scheme.

Re: Folder Size

Hi, Thank you for the reply. To make operating easier, I copied the
Documents Icon from Start to my Task Bar, where I also have many others
which are in daily use. However, whichever I click on Documents are
displayed over the whole of my monitor screen, which makes things difficult
when I have to copy/drag files from Folders in Documents onto a CD. Is there
a way of reducing the size of the Documents displayed on the Monitor the
same as one can do with any other Folder?

Re: Folder Size

Hi, Zygy.

I don't understand what you have done. When I copy the Documents folder
from the Start Menu to the Desktop, or create a Shortcut on my Desktop, then
click it, I see Windows Explorer in a Normal window, which I can resize as
with any other window. If I set its Properties to Run in a Maximized
window, it opens maximized, but the Restore (size) button is still there as
usual and I can make the window any size I want.

When you say you "copied the Documents Icon from Start to my Task Bar, where
I also have many others which are in daily use", do you mean to your Quick
Launch toolbar? When I copy my Documents icon to QL, I still have the
option to Run in a Normal or Maximized window, so I still don't see the
problem you are having.

By the way, as you probably know, there are 3 views that we often refer to
as "full screen". They may look much the same to us users, but Windows sees
them distinctly differently.

1. Maximized window - such as when we click the square near the X in the
upper right corner.

2. Normal window - stretched to fill the screen.

3. Full Screen - toggled by pressing the F11 key. (Not available in some
windows, such as here in WLM's Compose window.)

Hi Zygy,

You will need to reset the Folder View Settings to allow Vista to remember the window setting as it was left when closed. Method Two in this tutorial will show you how. Afterwards, size the window to how you want it to open next time and close it.

Re: Folder Size

Hi, Thank you for the contribution. The problem is resolved! Just for the
hell of it I clicked on the square when Documents was displayed on the full
screen and it reduced itself in size to the normal presentation of a Folder.
It must remain as a mystery why clicking on the square, instead of
enlarging, it reduced the size of the displayed item.
