| | Display Cookies in Vista Ultimate? I need a little help/education - I have two computers, one running Vista Ultimate and one running Vista Home Premium. For some reason I am denied access to the cookies in Ultimate and yet I have "exactly" the same setup on the Premium machine and I can view and edit cookies with no problem. Is Ultimate different when it come to the system administrator or did I do some sort of magic on the Premium machine? The only difference between the two setups is I have two users on Ultimate and only one user on the Premium setup? I can do the delete all routine in Internet Explorer but I would like to go in a delete specific cookies so I can get back into the Windows Home Server Forum! Thanks in advance. |

| | Re: Display Cookies in Vista Ultimate? Added information - the way I access the cookies on the Premium setup is via a shortcut to the cookies. Premium will not let me look at them via Windows Explorer directly. I try the same thing in Ultimate and the shortcut to cookies does nothing. The shortcut looks the same on both systems??? In addition to SS's post, you need to have ""Show Hidden Files and Folders" checked, and uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files" to see them. Cookies Shawn |

| | Re: Display Cookies in Vista Ultimate? I do have Vista Ultimate with one account only. I fancy myself as a very "experienced" user. I do a lot of C# .NET programming. I was about to give you an additional "lecture" as to how to handle the situation. In the process of typing the instruction I decided to practice what I was about to preach myself. I swear, I cannot see any cookies in that folder no matter what I tried. I do not need to get there. I delete them wholesale when I need it. I was just curious because I frequently check suggestions people post. It is so strange. this is how far I've got: I opened Command Prompt as run as Administrator, navigated myself to C:\users\AlexB\ and checked the directory. Naturally cookies folder was hidden. I unchecked the "Hide Protected Operating System Files" ("Show Hidden Files and Folders" was already checked before) as brink suggested, checked the directory again. There was cookies directory in there, I did cd cookies. The directory is empty. I know for a fact that there are cookies in there because I go to sites where I won't be recognized without them. Before I unchecked "Hide Protected Operating System Files" the cookies directory was not visible in Windows explorer. Now it is visible but so what? I still cannot open the folder in Windows Explorer. It says "Access denied." I think I finally figured out what the problem was but I decided to back off. I do not need to mess with this aspect of my Vista. This is what's going on. I right clicked file "cookies" or perhaps even the parent file "users," Properties>>Security>>Edit. I removed everyone as a use group. I added myself as a user of this folder, although I really have no business to be there, then I gave myself full rights, did apply and still I could not open the folder in WE. The last resort was to press Advanced and here the full truth became apparent. Despite the fact that I deleted group "everyone" from the previous window, "everyone" was still there with the explicit Type: "Deny." Had I pressed another edit on that form and removed this group I would have been able to do what I did not want to do. I know it for a fact that it was how I deleted some system protected folders on external HDD which contained a backup from an old OS: XP or Win2K. Vista still kept a watchful eye on it. It is just a layer upon layer of security but I think it is for the better. I also want to warn you the there might be an additional hurdle for you to jump over. You will have to kill the inheritance. It is a totally different can of worms. Just figure it out. Go ahead my boy if you want to mess with cookies. good luck. It might be worth to take a look at. CCleaner - Home Shawn |
