| | Start Menu Lock Button Does anyone know if a way to change the function of the lock button on the start menu to log out? I've already changed the sleep to shutdown, since the Vista Home Premium install fails to wake from sleep. This is a machine shared by 4 people who each have their own accounts, and who have yet to learn that they should log out rather than lock the system when they are done using it. |

| | RE: Start Menu Lock Button Hi Andrew, Unfortunately, there is no way to change the function of the lock button on the default Start Menu, however if you right click on the start orb and select 'Properties' you will be able to effect a workaround, if you don't mind using the alternative start menu. In the 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' dialogue that appears, select the 'Start Menu' tab. The default option is 'Start menu', but you need to select 'Classic Start menu'. Next, click 'Customize...'. This brings up another dialogue entitled 'Customize Classic Start Menu'. Under 'Advanced Start menu options:', enable 'Display log off' and then click 'OK' twice to close all dialogue boxes. When you click on the start orb, 'Log Off <Name>' is one of the options displayed. Note that you can revert back to the default menu if you so wish, just follow the above instructions but select 'Start menu' instead of 'Classic Start menu'. Also note that you will need to repeat the above for each user on your PC. | Ultimate x64 | Re: Start Menu Lock Button OR You could make a shortcut for <C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /l>, add a nice icon to it. Now you have a Log off button. This will log you off immediatlly. Drawback: You have to double-click. Put the shortcut in Quicklaunch, then you only have to click once. Drawback: If you click it by accident you will log off no matter what programs you have open. Could result in lost data. Add the switch </t xxx> to give yourself time to save your data. <xxx> must be replaced with how many seconds you want to count down before log off. Drawback: In normal everyday sense this becomes annoying since you have to wait for xxx amount of time before log off. Good luck ![]() (To potential flamers of bumping an old thread: Get a life. I am adding valued information the problem. In fact I was directed here from google searching for a solution to the "Lock"-button, since I didn't find any, I made one up that I think is a good alternative for running with classic menues. Some DO like the new menues.) |
