documents folder empty

Hi NG!

I have a strange problem.

My documents folder doesnt show the content, although the content exists.
When typing a subfolders name in the addressbar, I can see the contents of
this subfolder.

Also in the command shell the "dir" command doesnt show me any content of
the documents-folder. But I can access subdirectories via "cd subdirectory".
The content of the subdirectory can be listed via "dir".

When I select "properties" after right-clicking the documents folder vista
shows me the size of the folder and the number of files found.

Has anybody got an idea what could be the reason for this strange behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

It's possible that all the file inside your documents folder are hidden. To confirm this, open any Explorer window, click Organize, then "Folder and Search Options". Click the View tab, then make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" are checked.

If you can now see your files, then they have been hidden. You can permanently remove the hidden attribute on the files like this:
  1. Open a Command Prompt (<WINKEY>+<R>, Type "CMD" (without quotes), press <ENTER>)
  2. Use the CD command to go to your documents folder
  3. type "ATTRIB -h *.* /s /d" (without quotes) then press <ENTER>
  4. This could take several seconds to a few minutes to complete, depending on how many files there are. System-attribute files will not be affected.
  5. When complete, go back into Explorer, and turn off the display of hidden files.
Hope this helps.

Re: documents folder empty

Hello dzomlija!

Thank you for your help!
I dont know, how the folders became "hidden", but they were...

Switching to "show hidden files and folders" helped finding the content!

Thanks a lot.
