    Where are the Desktop icons?

When I use Windows Explorer to look for Desktop icons in Vista Home Premium,
I can't find a Desktop folder in the C:/Users/Public folder, even though the
properties on the icon I'm looking for says that this is where it is located.
Is there some new twist from XP that I've missed that hides these files?

The Desktop folder in \Users\Public is hidden by default.

How to see it in Windows Explorer: Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Show
    hidden files and folders.

    Hi,

It should be C:\Users\Public\Desktop, but you may need to set folder options
to view hidden and system folders. Have you tried simply typing it into the
    address bar?

I thought Desktop was at the top of the tree. On my Vista I see Desktop
and all the icons, then Computer and after that c:\ and the other drives. I
have my explorer set to classic view.

You are not gonna find one because there is no such account as Public, the
Public directory is shared with multiple users who want to share files.

Right below "desktop" on my PC, is my user name folder, then public.

If you don't see it there...expand c: , then open users

    There's a C:\Users\Public folder, and it's a yellow one rather than
a blue one in Explorer so I guess it's real, not a system artifact.

Does any one know why an icon suddenly disappears? That happen on my wife's desktop to the Firefox icon. Can't seem to get it back, even though it works fine on my desktop (we share a computer). BTW, already tried "change Icons" in the properties dialog box, no luck.

    Hi Robin,

The special properties of the Desktop folder allow it to be shown at the top
of the folder tree, but its actual location for each user is
    C:\Users\<user>\desktop.
