I have Vista Home, suddenly I can only set background as solid color, but I
want a picture. When I select a pic it will not become my background. Also
tried the reverse by right clicking on pic and selecting "set as
background"--this still doesnt do it.
Anyone have an idea?

Try:

1. Control Panel (Classic View)>Ease of Access Center
2. Click "Make the computer easier to see".
3. Uncheck "Remove background images (where available)"
4. Save.
