| | PC just darn won't do what it used to! OK, I may be about to step in it. But I'm getting a little desperate. In Dec. I could no longer access the Tools option to diagnose connection. It is there, no longer works. In Jan. lost options/ for changes or settings for most programs & features. My IP address seems to change, maybe it should. I'm soo new to all. That maybe its normal. I just had not noticed it doing so before. I have made note of these System Info: Adapter:Type, unavailable. IP, Subnet, Default Gateway:unavailable. DNHCP: neither enabled or the server available. MAC address: not available. The only one showing to be available: Intel(R) 82566DC for ethernet? I did not set up this Hp m8120n, w/Vista Home Prem,Norton Internet 2008 & only software installed was Office 2007 home & student. Have I accidentally changed something in the settings? Or what? Have scanned for everything I can think of. Now settings are turning themselves on or off by themselves. Any help appreciated or references I could use. Or do I just need my own IT pro to redo this whole thing? -- "Lost in Windows"ShellP |

| | Re: PC just darn won't do what it used to! I had no choice in the matter. Started w/Hp Slimline Pavillion that BB Geeks allowed to get totally infected w/everything imagined & very real. At time they made good on replacement ( no cash refund ). Vista was all that was available. I have even recieved a 'free' Vista Ultimae upgrade from disc. And too scared to try it. I have no problem w/Vista I think its me. To ignorant to be allowed use of PC? -- shellp (tecno newbie) "Joe cann" wrote: Quote: > why on earth did you select to use vista? > > Install XP and you will be happy again > > > "shellp" <shellp@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:29DEF8DD-BEA2-4A8A-8031-B1F60ADDA081@xxxxxx Quote: > > OK, I may be about to step in it. | | Re: PC just darn won't do what it used to! After reading your post I don't know what problem you are here to solve. Just that your PC won't do what it used to? Huh? Settings are turning themselves on and off? Huh? What settings? Lost options for most programs and features? What programs, what features? If your issue is your network adapter is not working, look in device manager (control panel/system/upper left under tasks click device manager) see if your network adapter is installed and working correctly. Do you have a router? Your IP address could come from that or your ISP. Why do state you have a changing IP address when you haven't even outlined what your problem is? Do you think that is helpful in diagnosing a problem that you have yet to reveal. Look in the event viewer for errors related to whatever you are here complaining about. (control panel/administrative tools/event viewer) Then report back. Or do I just need my > own IT pro to redo this whole thing? it isn't clear, does the network work at all or not ? are you trying to troubleshoot a non-working network connection ? or just why the diagnose seems to no longer work ? to get current network setting.... start a command prompt. enter: ipconfig /all <press return> The output of ipconfig sums up all eth adapter info for all (when /all is present) installed network devices. |
