Sideways Desktop On Laptop with Dell

I have vista on my new Dell laptop. when I close my computer it sometimes
will have either a sideways display when I open it or sometimes just a
centered display with big black bars on the sides. Can I somehow lock the
desktop so this doesn't happen. I have noone else playing with my computer -
it is just closing the lid and then reopening it. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

omgbaddog,

Sounds to me like your video adapter. You should go into your video
adapter's control center and select the correct settings.

Have a nice day.
