| | NVIDIA tray ICON not available From what I read searching google, the little NVIDIA tray icon that works for XP, does not work for Vista even though the process is running and its start up is in the autorun location for vista.. It just does not appear. This tray icon is a DLL, and I cannot launch it manually... does anyone know a work-around? Some only suggest that I should use a 3rd party tray icon like NVtray... but I have tested them all.. the original NVIDIA one is the best (PS) I am posting this both in MS newsgroups for vista and in the Nvidia Forum THANKS! |

Some only suggest that I should use a 3rd party tray icon like NVtray... but I have tested them all.. the original NVIDIA one is the best (PS) I am posting this both in MS newsgroups for vista and in the Nvidia Forum THANKS! Over time I forgot about it and it was, I guess, hidden in the notification area, but once I had to change the resolution quickly and I expanded the hidden icons and it wasn't there! That was about 4 months ago and after numerous re-installs, it hasn't come back yet. Recently, I also felt the need of having multiple virtual desktops and remembered that XP nvidia drivers could let me do that. But when I searched the crappy new control panel, I found no mention of it! Arrgh! I was so disappointed! I almost felt like formatting over to XP! Could some one please help us out here? EDIT: Oh and 1 more thing. In XP there always was an nvidia service which has now disappeared for me in Vista. When I scoured through my startup programs I found that the service is supposed to start, but it doesn't seem to be registered properly since I can't see it in services.msc Here's my nvidia startup entries: RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\nvsvc.dll,nvsvcStart RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit So as you see, both the sys tray icon and the service should be started but they are not [as mentioned earlier by kreg, there are just 2 running instances of rundll32.exe]. The middle startup entry seems to work since I get the shortcut to open control panel on desktop right click! Last edited by Dragor; 06-08-2008 at 03:42 AM.. Reason: added info about nvidia service and startup entries |

Maybe nVidia will release an update soon. However, you can still get at the NVIDIA Control Panel. Right-click the desktop and choose 'NVIDIA Control Panel'. There you will find settings for multiple monitors. You may also use the Windows display settings to setup and configure multiple monitors. Right-click the desktop and choose 'Personalize', click "Display Settings". -solon fox |
