Cannot remove program icon from start menu

This has been driving me crazy, I just purchase my new computer and has
several programs that are shortcutted in lower left hand box (frequently used
program area) of the start menu. I try to remove them by right clicking and
clicking on remove from this list but they reappear after the computer is
restarted. How do I remove them permemently?

Thanks!

Have you tried uninstalling the applications?

Open Control Panel, then click "Uninstall a program" under the "Programs" heading.
