I hate my Vista computer

I hate my computer. I went out and bought what I thought was my "Dream
Machine". I've had this computer for almost one year. It's constantly "doing
something". Everything about it is so slow. I have a 2.4 Centrino Duo x64. I
hate that my work requires windows-based software. I'm not a Linux advocate,
I've never used a Mac. I think my Windows 3.1.1 desktop brought up
applications faster than this computer. If my hardware manufacturer had all
the drivers for XP, I would switch back.

Re: I hate my Vista computer

How much memory is installed? Is it slow on everything, or just certain
things? How many things do you have running at startup? There are a lot of
reasons it could be going slow, and with a processor like that, and if the
other components are up to par, it should run pretty fast.

And there should be drivers available for XP if you do decide to downgrade
to XP.

Re: I hate my Vista computer

Dual boot it with xp and try to find alternative drivers...

Dont even buy XP before you try this.. install XP from any old disk and dont
activate, it will work for 30 days,

then if you find all the generic drivers or alternative ones and its
running, go buy an OEM version of XP

or you can get perhaps a DOWNGRADE XP Disk if you have BUSINESS or Ultimate

Ask the guys that sold it to you, if you upgrade to ULTIMATE can you get the
free DOWNGRADE XP disk?

My thought is simple, instead of paying for XP OEM, you UPGRADE Vista to
Ultimate to get the FREE downgrade XP disk

Re: I hate my Vista computer

The prob started in late 2006 when vista was let out to the OEM manufacturers
like Dell, HP, etc.
From then a lot of the new motherboards do not have XP drivers , only vista
drivers, written for them.

Re: I hate my Vista computer

I was looking at laptops a while back and noticed some manufacturers were
selling laptops with old 4200 rpm disk drives at firesale prices. A slow
disk drive will make your laptop appear to run slow.

Re: I hate my Vista computer

my advice to speed up your computer is look at what services/process's
are running and what amount of cpu/ram they are using. then
research/decide if that process is needed by the system or you(some are
critical). i found many could can be set to manual/stopped or
disabled/stopped via administrative tools/services, also check
scheduled tasks. good luck

I uderstand but I have some newish Dells and can run XP no problem.
Even now they sell them with Vista and allow XP downgrades

I suspect it would be a very narrow set of machines that had changed so much that an old XP driver wouldn't work.

Re: I hate my Vista computer

Arguing on the Internet is a fool's game.
The other party is probably a sixteen year old, or indistinguishable from
one,
with an infinite amount of time.
