| | Re: Memory Hi jimdd, Yes, as most programs now seek an allocation of pages when initialized, regardless of whether they use them or not. Disabling the pagefile can lead to 'out of memory' errors, even though it's not being used. Just set it to 100MB minimum with no maximum if you must tinker. Be aware though that to catch memory dumps you need to leave it at system managed so that the size is sufficient should a stop error occur. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "jimdd" <jimdd.349hci@xxxxxx-mx.forums.vistaheads.com> wrote in message news:jimdd.349hci@xxxxxx-mx.forums.vistaheads.com... If you have no page file or the page file is too small your system will save to the disk. It is much harder and takes much longer for your system to retrieve files from a mechanical disk than it is to retrieve them from memory. If you let Windows manage your page file, swap file or virtual memory, whatever you wish to call it, the size of the file will be decreased and increased based upon demand. However, if you manage the size of the page file yourself and it is not large enough you will find that files are dispatched to your hard drive as opposed to being dispatched to memory. This will slow down your system. Have a nice day. C.B. -- It is the responsibility and duty of everyone to help the underprivileged and less fortunate among us. |
