Could be due to the indexing that isn't finished yet.
This could take very long in the beginning especially when you have a lot of
files (or multiple partitions and multiboot etc).

No, No, No. Have you ever seen the indexing settings? I think that a lot of
people didn't see the indexing settings...
The searchindexer by default indexes only a small amount of folders, such as
the
start menu, the windows mail and the documents and so it's not heavy but
it's very fast.

Disk defragmenter runs at low I/O priority so it doesn't interfere with
other I/O activities i.e. disk accesses.
I just walked away left it run and it finally stopped.

It's supposed to but has been bugged repeatedly for that not quite working
right.
