Re: Setting up wireless printing...

Without any quotes from previous posts, we can't tell what you have tried.
If you search the MS KB (www.support.microsoft.com) , there is a network
discovery download that will help Vista see XP machines (it is installed on
the XP machine not the Vista one).
If you have set the router to assign an address automatically and use the
same workgroup name, and have file/print sharing enabled and at least 1
file/folder shared; it should show on the network.
If you have a wireless network, you may need to have the router either
broadcast the SSID or know what it is to search for it on the wireless
connection list.
You also may have security software, firewall, Norton, Mcafee or such
blocking your access.
Without the details, general information is all that can be offered.

Hi,
Supposing you everthing according to the rules i had the same problem.
I have no explanation for it but after creating a new port for the
networkprinter it was working fine.
The setting were identical and after a restall i had the same problem.

A trial worth.

Up till know i am looking forward to the reason on it.

Succes

Re: Setting up wireless printing...

Check your firewall settings as this is the thing that usually screws me up.
There is also an option somewhere to turn network discovery on in the
network and sharing center - that’s the other thing the fouled me up when I
tried to connect 2 vista laptops to my XP desktop network.

As far as printer goes, I found what worked the best for me was attaching
the printer directly to the vista laptop and installing it first, then I
connected the printer back to the desktop computer and the vista laptop
found the drivers for it when it kept crashing the print spooler otherwise.

RE: Setting up wireless printing...

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.

How to give Permissions are there, too.

If you are running Norton, Trend Micro, McAfee, etc’s Firewall, check its
settings to make sure it allows file and printer sharing..

1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.

In Vista Network and Sharing:

Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)

Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)

File Sharing: ON

Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)

Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and
passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be
asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer
from an XP computer.

Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer sharing Wizard.
