Vista 5472 installed on Dell Optiplex GX620

Just got a couple of new seats from work... installed Vista on a Dell GX620
yesterday. The GX620 is a P4 HT 3.8Ghz box, with onboard video and sound.
Vista setup went fine... even finding the SATA drives for install; I didn't
have to provide a SATA controller driver like I did on my personal Dell XPS
Gen 2.

Got to the desktop and, voila! Aero Glass. From an onboard video controller.
Of interest, perhaps, is the fact that under XP, the display adapter in
Device Manager was reported as "Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family." Under
Vista it is reported as "Intel Lakeport Graphics Controller 0 (Microsoft
Corporation - (WDDM)."

When I first went into device manager to look for bangs, there were bangs
for multimedia controller (sound) and video controller. Hmmm... used the XP
drivers to install the sound and it worked, no problem. Figured I'd take a
whack at installing the old video drivers, just to see what would happen.
Installed the old video drivers and, of course, Aero Glass went away.
Deleted the old video drivers via device manager, rebooted, let Vista
reinstall the new drivers and Aero Glass came back and the video controller
bang was gone from device manager.

Video mem is reported as:

Total Available Graphics Memory: 192MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 0MB
System Video Memory: 64MB
Shared System Memory: 128MB

The GX620 has 2GB RAM. The box seems pretty fast... I probably won't be
testing any games on it or pushing the multimedia envelope... but I will
play movies, etc. to see what kind of performance I get from the onboard
video for regular day-to-day tasks.

Anyway, that's all I have for now...
