Re: sony vaio and the touchpad

My laptop isn't a Sony, but many use the Synaptec touchpad.
Usually if you have a mouse plugged in, it works in addition to the
touchpad.
I have never found it necessary to disable the touchpad, and if you did and
the mouse or port failed, how would you get it back?

A number of the Sony VAIO laptop lines have strange issues with the
touchpad reacting in reverse with no real fix available.

If it's because she's accidentally bumping the touchpad with her thumb, rest
assured that over time she will develop the habit of holding he thumb
differently as she types. I learned that when I got my first laptop....

I want to turn the fool thing off, i have an external mouse, but if you
accidentally brush the pad while typing, your mouse jumps all over the place
and screws up everything.

Great! Thats good for you but not for me.
When have all the USB ports ever failed? As long as one works you can plug in
a mouse.

Re: sony vaio and the touchpad

I found this by googling "disable sony vaio touchpad"...

Go to C:\Program Files\Sony\Setting Utility Series and run
VCCPointingDevice.exe. Untick the "Enable" checkbox and voila - this would
disable the touchpad. You could create a shortcut to the file above for easy
access!

To enable the touchpad you need to run the same executable and tick the
"Enable" checkbox. You need to have an external mouse to move around and if
you are a GNU-Linux freak, I guess you can make you way around without the
mouse.

Hi. You are not alone. I have had my Sony for a while, and I can not type
on it because of the Mouse Pad. The Pointer jumps all over the place just
like yours. It's really terrible.

I appreciate Lori's shortcut method. I've been doing it the long way.
Under Start > All Programs, look for "Vaio Support Central" and click on
"Vaio Central" TouchPad options are there.

I've set a Windows shortcut to the program Lori provided. :>)

I believe I use to turn this off in the BIOS. I don't remember anymore.

I've noticed the newer HP laptops have a button that turns the TouchPad
on/off. I think this is a great idea, and one I've been waiting a long time
for.
Sony is just terrible in this design.

Re: sony vaio and the touchpad

Help! I've just reformatted the hard drive on my Sony Vaio and installed
Windows 7 (to escape the dreaded Vista originally installed). Now I've
discovered I need a copy of "vccpointingdevice.exe" as mentioned
elsewhere on this thread, to control my touchpad. Can't find a copy
anywhere through Google. Can anyone help with a location for a copy?
Thanx.
