calculating time remaining

HI

When I try to copy files from my vista ultimate 64 bit notebook to an
external hdd attached to my desktop machine (XP pro SP2 (32 bit)) the
process seems to take hours to copy small files - often i will get the
'calculating time remaining' box and will be told that it will take 19763
days to copy 50 meg.

Is this a problem that others have had? The network is cabled and is fast
between the xp machines.

Re: calculating time remaining

While the drive is attached, go to start/run, and type:
devmgmt.msc
doubleclick the removable device, and the "Policies" tab, select the
"Optimize for performance" radio button.
You will have to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the Notifications
area when you use this option.
