I think some of the other posters gave reasons that I'm in agreement with. There must be a registry entry/hack/setting somewhere that will tell Vista to not immediately sort new files in the folder you have opened. Quote: > |

| | Re: Vista annoying "feature" So I guess this is dead here, no one has any ideas of if there's a reg hack or some other setting that will make the sorting work like it did in XP? | | Re: Vista annoying "feature" You are right! Well spotted! The first item listed under "Registry Hacks" at (beware wordwrap): http://www.scribd.com/doc/429373/Win..._related_doc=1 deals with Auto Sort in the XP Start Menu. I am not much into messing with the registry, but someone here with such skills might be able to adapt this tweak to turn auto-sort off when items are added to a folder without having to remember to drag a file out of sequence first. | | Re: Vista annoying "feature" LOL. That tweak looks familiar! http://groups.google.com/group/micro...94cb5c6d5fe79d There is something that can be done in the registry, but to apply to all folders, it requires having templates set for all the various folder types beforehand & then running a script to toggle a single bit in those templates as well as all saved folder views -- and I haven't written the script yet! ![]() Also, the behavior doesn't mimic XP exactly. When the above tweak is in effect, the new folder will be at the bottom, but a refresh won't sort it. You have to click the column header twice. -- Good Luck, Keith Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] "Doug" <doug@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23ULpVR1fIHA.1900@xxxxxx Quote: > You are right!
