network printer problem

I have a Minolta Pagepro 8L laserprinter active in my network. I can't add
this printer to my new notebook with Vista. Vista doesn't recognice te
printer/driver (he see the printer on the PC with W98), but can't install
him.

How can I solve this problem?

RE: network printer problem

I'm guessing that your printer is out of date and therefore there are no
drivers for it. If so, Vista won't recognize the printer and the only way it
will will to update your network printer to one that is Vista compatible.
Problem there is that you Win98 machine may not be able to connect to the new
printer.

Minolta, or any other printer manufacturer of your choice, will have a list
of devices that are Vista compatible.

Re: network printer problem

Ask Minolta for a print driver that works on Vista.

Re: network printer problem

Hello,

we have similar problem on our network as Peter en Dorenda. We have
network with PCs with WIN98SE. On one PC
are 2 shared printers (HP LJ P2015d and Minolta Magicolor 2300DL). From
other PCs is possible print on both printers.
From WIN2003Server it is also OK.
Now we bought PC with WinVistaBussines (for learning). When we try connect
from WVB shared (network) printers we receive message:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer Operation could not be completed
(error 0x00000866)"
When we install HP LJ P2015d locally (move HW on another table) on new PC
with WVB it is functionally. But is not
possible connect that printer from PCs with WIN98 through network.

We have suspicion that MS does not support already WIN98 network printers
from WindowsVista. Or has somebody
another meaning?

Regards Zbynek
