Vista doesnt connect to XP Share.

Hello,

I have a home network with 3 computers. Two with XP Pro and one with Vista
Business. From XP I can see the vista pc but can access its share. From
Vista I dont see any XP. I've already disabled both firewalls, anti-virus,
etc.
Both XP connect to each other well. From Vista I can ping both XP and can
control them with remote desktop. I just cant connect to their shared
folders and vice-versa. All pcs are using different users and I would like
to stay that way. In vista I've already disabled password protection and all
other configurations n various ways. Both XP connect by cable to a router
and Vista connects through wireless. The router firewall is disabled.

Hope this is clear. Thanks.

Re: Vista doesnt connect to XP Share.

You probably have the local share option set on the XP machines. You will
find a 'network share' option on the sharing tab of the properties of the
folder.

Re: Vista doesnt connect to XP Share.

I can access the shares from the XP machines. I have two machines with XP
and I can access each one from the other. I just can access from the vista
machine to the xp and from the xp to the vista. On all the machines I dont
have the simple share activated.

Re: Vista doesnt connect to XP Share.

I have almost the same situation as Joao. All folder options are set to share and I still cannot see the XP machine through Vista, which also connects through wireless.

Does anyone know of a good tutorial that addresses networking Vista and XP?

On your Vista machine go to the network sharing center and make sure that
you have

network discovery on
file sharing on
public folder sharing on(read only)
printer sharing on or off depending on what you want
password protected off

I am using these settings and have no trouble sharing between XP and Vista
machines.

Al make sure on the Vista computer that the network is set to be a Private Network.

Re: Vista doesnt connect to XP Share.

Ok, I was able to get everything working with the help of John and dzomlija. My particular problem was that I had two services disabled on the XP machine that needed to be on manual.

Universal Plug and Play Device Host
SSDP Discovery Service

Thanks!

Why do you need uPnP for a file share?

It's rare for someone to post back saying that their problem has been resolved. Thanks!
