ALT+F4 Shut Down

Am i wrong to think that if, every day i shut down using ALT+F4 and every
day i change the Default from "Sleep" to "Shut Down", and Vista is supposed
to be an 'improvement' of previous versions of windows, and the definition
of "ultimate" means last or greatest......then shouldn't Vista be smart
enough to SET THE DEFAULT TO "SHUT DOWN" SO I DON'T HAVE TO SELECT IT EACH
TIME? as in previous versions of windows?

  1. Open "Control Panel"
  2. Click "Hardware and Sound"
  3. Click "Power Options"
  4. Under your selected power plan, click "Change plan settings"
  5. Click "Change advanced power settings"
  6. Expand the "Power buttons and lid" option in the list
  7. Expand "Start menu power button"
  8. Change the setting to "Shut down"
  9. Click "Apply"
  10. Click "OK"
  11. Close the "Edit Plan Settings" window
Does that fix it for you?

Off Topic: There is no need to type in uppercase. It is considered rude.

Mataeux

Open Help and Support and search for Power Options. In the results, click
the "Shut down the computer FAQ".

Re: ALT+F4 Shut Down

mataeux is right - Vista is dumber than XP in this respect.

My XP boxes remember whatever I last selected when using Alt-F4 as a
shortcut to shutting down. Vista does not.

It's faster than mouseing for the "start" orb, finding the shutdown arrow,
clicking on the choice I want this time. Really, keyboard shortcuts are
there for a reason.
