| | restoring from vista home I recently upgraded from vistat home premium to vista ultimate. I did a backup of my files and folders using the vista home backup and restore utility. Once i had completed my upgrade I attempted to restore my files and folders using the vista ultimate backup and restore. the backup was found however, the location said the backup location is not available. i used an external USB hard drive to store the backup on. It is not a flash drive is a 320GB external hard drive. Any help solving this problem will be appreciated. My system is a HP Pavilion DV9727 laptop with dual core AMD turion 64x2 processor, 3 GB ram and 250GB hard drive. The external drive is a Maxtor OneTouch III USB Device [Hard drive] (320.07 GB). -- a bit confused |

| | Re: restoring from vista home I would try changing the write caching temporarily. start/run, type: devmgmt.msc Doubleclick the removable disk drive device, and in that Properties look at the "Policies" tab for enabling write caching (needs to use the "Safely remove hardware" icon) -- Was this helpful? Then click the "Yes" Ratings button. Voting helps the web interface. http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/locales....htm#RateAPost Mark L. Ferguson .. | | Re: restoring from vista home I did as you suggested. However, I still get the same message under the locatiion column of the restore utility. It finds the backup set as before and yet when I select the backup set and click next I get a message box with "The disk containing the backup is not accessible. Please make sure it is turned on and connected to the computer." Which it is turned and connected. I can access it from windows explorer and open other files stored on it but the backup and restore utility still is unable to access the backup set. -- a bit confused "Mark L.
