Vista - Sleep Doesnt work

I have continually tried to put my brand new computer with windows vista into
"sleep" mode, the process begins and then all of a sudden the fans start to
begin rapidly and the computer goes back to the desktop.

You might try going through this to see if it can help you find what is waking up your computer so soon. I would check the usuall things like wireless mouse or keyboard, network device Power Management options, programs that may be running in the background, and even slightly moving the mouse after you click on sleep.

The sleep function (S3 functions in the BIOS settings) is causing the
default action "Restart on Error" If you look at the Event Viewer you will
see the event. One easy way to look at that is to open a Command Prompt with
the richtclick 'run as administrator' option. Type the command :
perfmon /rel
