| | Installation / Upgrading Hardware I read some interesting comments on a website earlier about Windows Vista and it's installation onto a PC. I upgrade my PC roughly every 5 years and when i've bought Windows Vista Ultimate I want to be able to install it on any motherboard upgrades I choose to do. Is it true that if you install it it locks itself down to your PC's motherboard ? If this is the case how would you upgrade your PC without having to purchase another licence of Windows Vista ? Thanks, Anthony Collison (BA) Software Developer |

| | Re: Installation / Upgrading Hardware There is a bug in the web-based newsreader that gives a false posting error. No. Vista does not lock on to your mobo. You are confusing this with what is called SLA (BIOS locked) editions of Windows used by some OEM's. Such SLA versions do not have to be activated because they cannot be installed on a different computer anyway. This is not generally done with consumer machines but is in use in enterprises. SLA has been in use for some time.
