Vista - media center stopped working

i've got an hp pavilion dv9000 and am running vista home premium edition. the
media center has stopped working and i've followed the recommendations from
the ms KB947464:

neither of the two options seems to work. it looks like the last auto update
from ms was: kb947172.

any suggestions?

uninstalled the patch microsoft provided and media center worked fine --
don't install the kb947172 patch don't allow it to be installed.

It may not be enough information but that's all the error message I get says
"Windows Media Center has Stopped Working" with a button to click that says
close program. Strangely enough my Windows Mobile Device Center stopped
working at the same time. It won't even open. If you or anyone has any idea
what to do to fix it I would love to hear it. I'll be happy to provide logs
from event viewer. Here are some of the entries for Media center:
