Inadvertently erased Windows Media Player ..... Have questions

I mistakenly erased Windows Media Player from my Vista computer.
What do I need to do to get it back on and working? I am pretty good
with the computer but by not means an expert. Thank you in advance
for you help.

Re: Inadvertently erased Windows Media Player ..... Have questions

WMP 11 is built into the OS. It's still there somewhere.

Try this:
Backup your registry!!
Then navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer. Right click and delete
it. Reboot. Hopefully you'll be asked if you want to reinstall it.

Re: Inadvertently erased Windows Media Player ..... Have questions

It's an interesting thought, but that won't work: the Windows XP installer
does not and can not reinstall the Windows Vista player at this time.

Re: Inadvertently erased Windows Media Player ..... Have questions

There is no uninstall functionality: you may be referring to the "Hide
Access" functionality, though? That simply removes the shortcuts and
AutoPlay access to the player.

It's an interesting thought that alkon may have accidentally activated Hide
Mode, though, so perhaps you're spot on here. =)

No, deleting that will just leave your system (more) broken.

Re: Inadvertently erased Windows Media Player ..... Have questions

What is an interesting thought?
If you're following up to a previous post, you don't need to include
everything. Snip out what's not relevant. But do include what is relevant.
Some people may have missed the original post and/or the post you are
replying to.

Re: Inadvertently erased Windows Media Player ..... Have questions

Can you offer an "interesting thought" on how the problem can be solved?

Re: Inadvertently erased Windows Media Player ..... Have questions

He linked to the player download. That was an interesting thought that
wouldn't have any useful effect.

Thanks for the clarification. =)
