| | Re: VISTA - how to stop messenger auto loading at startup Which version of Vista are you running? If you have Ultimate, Business or Enterprise have you tried group policy to disable the feature? This is no good if you are running Vista Home or premium because group policy is not included in these two versions. If you have Ultimate etc proceed as follows: 1/ Click Start button 2/ In search box type 'gpedit.msc' (without the quotes) and press Enter 3/ Click OK on the UAC box that appears next and then Group Policy will open 4/ In the Group Policy window, Click the > next to Administrative Templates in the User Configuration section 5/ Scroll down the list until you come to Windows components. Again click on the > next to this option 6/ Scroll down the windows components section until you come to Windows Messenger 7/ Click on Windows messenger and you should see two options in the right hand pane: a) Do not automatically start windows messenger initially b) Do not allow windows messenger to be run 8/ Chose which option you want and then click on it 9/ In the left hand pane you will see a link marked Properties, click on this to open the command properties 10/ Set the option as Disabled -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is".
