Replacement copy of explorer.exe

At startup my system has started stopping at myuserid\documents & when I
change to windows\explorer.exe and execute it all is ok.

Searching the web suggests that explorer.exe has been corrupted.

I have a Lenovo T60 which didn't come with a Vista DVD and I have system
backup/restore turned off.

How can I get a replacement copy of explorer.exe?

Thank you.

Re: Replacement copy of explorer.exe

Hi gaia,

You don't need to replace explorer.exe. The fact that you can manually start
it and everything is fine is an indicator that nothing is wrong with the
file itself. Rather I suspect a problem with the initial logon. Click start
and type regedit, then hit <enter>. Click continue at the UAC prompt, then
expand the left side to reach this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Click on the key, then look in the right pane for the Shell string. Double
click it and replace the contents with just "explorer.exe" (without the
quotes). Click ok, close the registry editor and reboot.

Re: Replacement copy of explorer.exe

Yep, I've seen some shell enhancement software that alters this key causing
symptoms similar to what you were experiencing. Glad to have helped sort it.
