| Guest | flickering monitor I have a laptop with Vista media version on it. Two days ago the monitor started to flicker (kind of a strobe effect) and I am not sure how to stop it. I have tried changing the resolution, changing the screen refresh rate (but the only option I seem to have is 60 hertz...), and turning off the TMM--none of these has worked. Any advice? Thank you in advance |

Thank you in advance both displays... If it still flickers it is probably the laptop (graphics card?) at fault. If the flicker is not on the external monitor it points to the laptop's LCD display at fault - possibly the backlight? Guy |

| Guest | Re: flickering monitor Possible the back light needs to be replaced. Try System Restore to a time before the problem began. LCD is the new flat kind, the CRT is the old bulky type "snowbunny" <snowbunny@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B1832583-B5FA-4C6A-A14E-02B4CECC1462@xxxxxx Quote: >I have a laptop with Vista media version on it. | Guest | Re: flickering monitor I have an LCD screen. When it flickers, it is more that everything on the screen momentarily shifts left than back at a rapid pace. I should have mentioned that it does not do this if I put the cursor in the far right part of the screen, only in the center or left. A couple coworkers have also mentioned checking the graphics or video card--how do I tell what kind I have and where do I go to look for updates? (Not too technically savvy here...) Thank you! Once you discover the make and model of your graphics card you can go to the manufacturer's website for the download of any new drivers you may need. To determine which driver you are currently using open Control Panel, Device Manager and look for the "Display adapters" listing. Open the Display adapter and right click on your graphics card entry and select "Properties". In the Properties window click on the Driver tab and you can see the driver release date and the driver version. Don't just click on the "Update Driver" button. If you do this Microsoft may install one of their generic drivers. Instead, go to the manufacturer's website and download the new driver from there. | Guest | Re: flickering monitor Ok, I downloaded the newest version of the graphics driver from Intel and it seems to have slowed the flickering down, but not stopped it completely. Someone recommended restoring Vista to some time in the past before the flickering started--is this a good idea? Thank you! | Newbie | Re: flickering monitor I had the same flickering problem with my monitor (Dell 8300 with XP) with a NVIDIA GeForce Fx520 graphics card. I called Dell Tech Support and they advised to replace the graphics card. However, I read the tip from CB to download the latest drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce graphics card from the manufacturer's web site and the problem is now resolved. Thanks a bunch for your tip CB !! You saved me $75 by not having to purchase a new graphics card as recommended by the Dell Tech Support!! |
