Downloading .exe files??

I've noticed when I download an name.exe file and save it to the directory
of my choice using FF 2 as a browser I end up with a file that has been
changed to name.pdf. I download it a second time and it works properly. Has
anyone else seen this? If so how do I correct it?

Thanks for any help, Rich

Rich,

Does the problem also occur if you use IE ?

If not then you probably have a FF issue and not a Windows Vista one.

As an aside I doubt the admins at Work.com are happy about you using a fake
address with their domain name in it that will result in the spam bots that
trawl these newsgroups generating junk mail to them. Ideally if you want to
put a fake e-mail address on your account use something like
"whatever"@localhost and not someone's real domain.

Re: Downloading .exe files??

I have never seen such a rename problem from FF on any platform...

strange.. if you dont mind using a download manager then perhaps you would
want to try
www.freedownloadmanager.org

I think it integrates automatically with FF, but if it doesnt you can add
this extension (add-on)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/220

both the above are free, good quality and tested with vista

Re: Downloading .exe files??

I've used Firefox with Vista for over a year, and have not seen this.
Perhaps you have an add-on that's causing this?
Have you tried disabling all add-ons?
Tools - Add-ons

Have you started FF in Safe Mode?
Start - All Programs - Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)

Thanks I'll change the work.com never thought it was a real domain! Imagine
that.

Rich,

When I decided to use a fake domain the first thing that came to my
mind was "concretesucks.com" since I've been finishing concrete for 37 years
and it truly sucks. However, I decided to check it out before I used it and
typed concretesucks.com in the address bar. Wouldn't you know it? Yes, it
does exist.
