I use 3ds max and ViZ, and I'm not familiar with Maya, but can you change
from DirectX to OpenGL or vice versa, for the realtime viewports? Have you
go it updated to the latest service pack?

Re: ARGHHH white view ports in maya 6

im not sure about switching from directx to openGL,but i can change the renderer to one of 4 option in prefrences,(maya software, maya hardware, maya vector and mental ray),i changed from maya software to maya hardware in maya 7 and that sorted the problem out,but this one seems like a pain in the ass to fix but i need it coz the F.E.A.R SDK only has a plugin which works with maya 6,maya 8.5 i use for everything else

Re: ARGHHH white view ports in maya 6

I dont know what the FEAR thing is, but you can always dual boot with XP or
run XP in a virtual machine and do some of the jobs you need there

No. You really cannot use a virtual machine with 3D and CAD for anything
other than very simple models. With the limited memory and no hardware
OpenGL or DirectX it really does not work very well at all. Another major
obstacle that I encountered with some programs is that you cannot use the
USB license dongles when you are using VirtualPC.

Yes, what you have done there is change from using the built-in software
rendering (which is obviously not compatible with Vista) to hardware
OpenGL/DirectX.
