| | pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista Hello: Help! Please? :-) I did a bad thing. Despite the incompatibility warnings, I installed Sonic RecordNow Deluxe. When I uninstalled it. I get the error on boot that pxhelp20.sys is corrupt or missing. Start up repair is unable to repair the system. The only way to fix the problem is to use System Restore to bring the system back to the state when Sonic was installed. Can someone who is knowledgeable please help me to troubleshoot this problem. I think I should remove RecordNow, but if I do there are problems. If I don't, there are little quirks now with accessing the CD/DVD drive. Many thanks Justin |

| | Re: pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista Uninstall the program, then before rebooting use regedit (or Registry Detective et al) to search the registry for all references to pxhelp20.sys. Delete any and all references found. Then reboot. If another 'missing or corrupt' message pops up, Lather, Rinse, Repeat. -- Maxwell Bluemeanie Not just FYI "Justin" <Justin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:39D5668A-1F07-4244-B6AC-15E04134F4A6@microsoft.com... > Hello: > > Help! | | Re: pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista I have tried System Restore. However, and unfortunately the only system Restore points that appear to be present are from the time that Sonic's software was installed! Go figure. I have no idea what happened to the other restore points. I'm quite certain that I made the setting to maximize the number of restore points. Perhaps you can, if you don't mind, educate me on this one too! How can I be sure that I have maximized the number of restore points? Ughhhh. Do you agree with Max's post of uninstalling the software and using Reg Edit to remove all instances of PXhelp20.sys from the registry? Many thanks! "Mark D. | | Re: pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista Hello Max, Thank you for the suggestion. I would like to try your method but here is what I am anticipating. If as you indicate, the error message might come back, how to I "Rinse and Repeat?" I won't have access to the Regedit utility will I ? | | Re: pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista You must be dual-booting. WinXP will delete Vista's SR points every time you boot back to XP. Do a search for "System Restore" and "volsnap.sys", you'll get an idea of what is going on. Microsoft needs to put some type of warning in Vista about this massive malfunction. -Michael "Justin" <Justin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BC7581DF-5985-4F2F-8EBB-E0147669BD01@microsoft.com... >I have tried System Restore. | | Re: pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista NOPE! Sorry Michael, your guess is wrong. I'm not dual booting. I did a clean install and did not load XP. | | RE: pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista Yes I did. Sorry Kevin, that gives the same results as a normal boot. | | Re: pxhelp20.sys Problem on Vista Chances are, it won't come back--at least not associated with that particular file. But if the 'uninstall' leaves other crap file references that Windows feels it MUST have access to (due to crappy install and crappy uninstall) that cannot be found in order to boot normally, booting to Safe Mode will likely let you in to run Regedit and purge the references. -- Maxwell Bluemeanie And not just FYI again "Justin" <Justin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:15D65320-77DD-411E-AB17-142F26C22317@microsoft.com... > Hello Max, > > Thank you for the suggestion.
