| | Product ID not accepted in online support registration process When trying to get Microsoft chat or email support via the online support forms the Windows Vista Product ID is not accepted by the Active-x agent or when entered manually. I am using activated Windows Visa Ultimate. Spent a completely fruitless and frustrating 30 minutes on phone with Microsoft in US without any resolution. Can anyone here help? Has this been a problem others have identified? |

| | Re: Product ID not accepted in online support registration process Open IE, tools menu, "Manage Add-ons" and delete the activeX component for that. Go back to the site to get a fresh copy. RMGetLicense is on the 'run without permission' set of add ons in the dropbox. -- Was this helpful? Then click the Ratings button. | | Re: Product ID not accepted in online support registration process Hi Mark, Thanks for the suggestion but I still have the same problem. When I let the page download the new active-x agent and it runs it comes back with the message "The Product ID number you provided is not valid or it is not in the correct format....." Yesterday I tried entering the Product ID manually (using the ID exactly as provided in control panel page where it shows that Vista license is activated). "Mark L. | | Re: Product ID not accepted in online support registration process You didn't say if you used Volume Licensing, but this may apply. How to troubleshoot Volume Activation error codes on Windows Vista ...: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938450 Error code 0xC004F050 Symptom When you try to use KMS, a KMS client, or a MAK to activate one or more computers, you may receive the following error message: 0xC004F050 The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid. Cause This issue may occur if the KMS key is not entered correctly. Also, this issue may occur if the key for a beta version of the operating system has been entered when you are using the release version of the operating system. Workaround To work around this issue, install the appropriate KMS key on the corresponding version of Windows. Verify that the key is entered correctly. If you copy and then paste the key, make sure that em dashes (—) are not substituted for en dashes (-) in the key. -- Was this helpful? Then click the Ratings button. | | Re: Product ID not accepted in online support registration process Hi dj, If your copy of Vista came preinstalled on your computer (OEM), then you would not be eligible for support direct from Microsoft. That is why your Product ID is not recognized on the Microsoft website. All support is provided by the OEM (Dell, HP etc). This includes support for the operating system as well as hardware.
