Windows Vistas Home Basic 32-Bit Language Support

I need both English and Japanese language on my computer. How do I make this
happen? At present, all I have is Engllish.

Thanks in advance for your help.

With Home Basic, you don't. There is no support for use of multiple
languages in that version.

Thanks Richard. Guess that's another way for Microsoft to force you to buy a
more expensive product. Gosh, wish I would've stayed with XP

Re: Windows Vistas Home Basic 32-Bit Language Support

Well, there is no barrier to using Japanese language applications on Vista
Home, including the Japanese version of Microsoft Office, or other apps.

What you *cannot* do on Vista Home, is install the Windows Japanese Language
Multilingual Interface ("MUI"). The MUI makes all of Windows' own menus,
icon labels, help text, etc appear in the given langauge - eg Japanese. If
you had a Japanese speaker who cannot read or understand "Start" or "Control
Menu", then you would need the Japaense MUI. If you have a bilingual
English/Japanese speaker who can understand "Start", "Applications", and
"Microsoft Office", they can then use the English language version of Vista
Home to start the Japanese version of Microsoft Office (or whatever).

The Japanese font files, and NLS Support for many other langauges, are
available and installed by default in every installation of Vista, no matter
whther Home, Business, Enterprise or Ultimate.

I have certainly run Japanese Office 2007 on Vista Home edition, so I'm not
guessing - I've done it :-)

There is a lot of misunderstanding around the langauge issue - exacerbated
by Microsoft's poor explanation - but multilingual use does *not* require
Enterprise or Ultimate editions. These editions are only required if you
specifically need multilinguage Windows user interfaces (MUIs). This is in
fact a small subset of multilingual users.

You can enable Japanese keyboard in Control Panel, under Regional and
Language Options, Keyboards and Languages.

Hope it helps,
Andrew
