How to activate the Preview Pane in Windows Explorer?

I click on Organize in Windows Explorer and then on Layout. There are only
two options in the box which opens up: 1) Menu Bar and 2) Navigation Pane.
The third option of Preview Pane does not show up. Could anyone advise how
to get it?

The book "Windows Vista Inside Out" by Bott, Siechert and Stinson says that
one can customize Windows Mail by activating a Preview Pane so that one can
preview a mail message before clicking it open for detailed reading. How to
do this in WinMail?

You don't set the preview pane in Windows Explorer. You set it in Windows Mail.

Click on View then Layout. You'll see the check box for Preview Pane.

Re: How to activate the Preview Pane in Windows Explorer?

I may be wrong. But the book I referred to earlier says ( Chapter 7 Page 228, What's what with Windows Explorer section) that
"The important landmarks , optional and otherwise are as follows: Navigation Pane, Details Pane, Preview Pane, Command bar and Menu Bar."

So, after reading the boook, it is not unreasonable to expect knowing how to get the Preview Pane in Windows Explorer. By the way, the book is published by Microsoft Corporation.

Hi P. Jayant,

See if this can help you turn on the Preview Pane in Windows Explorer.

Preview Pane in Vista Windows Explorer

For Windows Mail:
1. In the main Windows Mail screen, click on View, and Layout.
2. Check "Show preview Pane"
