Reporting broken important URL at website shell.windows.com

one of important pages at URL
http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/f...oc.asp?Ext=mp3 (example of URL)
reports 404 error – page not found. Previous page was redirecting visitor to
http://search.live.com/results.aspx?...+extension+mp3, where the „mp3“
extension was used in both URLs.

You can get to this URL from any Windows XP and Vista, if you trying to open
any file in explorer with "Open with..." context menu, will appears dialog
window. At bottom of this window is blue link with text "find appropriate
application for this extension at web"... after clicking 404 page appears. 3
days back it was working correctly.

Can you please forward this report to website administrator of
shell.windows.com?

Thank you in advance.

MS is probably setting up dropping mp3 support, for its proprietary
format.

If you need help figuring out what program you need to play mp3's, you
have many more problems than this group can help you with.

I noticed in my post, that it is an example URL. It is doing for ALL
EXTENSIONS without any exception. It has nothing to do with this sample mp3
extension.

Cool! I never liked it to begin with. Now MS needs to get rid of the
dialog box, and just take me to a list my list of programs.

try this site,( filext.com) ( it has a little download that makes it the default for unknown extensions and it works way better than the msn one! and don't hold your breath for msn to fix that link it has been broken for some time now) link to download page FILExt Direct good luck
