poor windows experience index score

HI! I am running vista ultimate with 2GB of RAM,Intel Pentium D 2.66 GHZ and
for my GPU Nvidia 8500 GT.I am wondering why i only got 2.5 of base score
which points to my memory though i have 2GB.I've read a lot of posts and
others are having good scores in memory. Is it about system settings that i
should review? please help...Thanks and more power to all

Re: poor windows experience index score

Do you have 533, 667, or 800 MHz RAM installed?
My WEI shows 5.9 for 2GB 667 MHz RAM I have installed.

Re: poor windows experience index score

My own HP Pavilion came with 533 MHz of RAM. I purchased
four (4) 512MB RAM modules rated at 667 MHz, removed
the slow 533 MHz RAM and installed the faster 667 MHz
RAM. It made all the difference in the world!

You can visit www.crucial.com and run the memory scanner
to determine the optimum RAM for your particular PC.

Re: poor windows experience index score

to tell the truth Windows Vista takes the lowest score and makes that
your WEI score. How does it come up with that information who knows.

Re: poor windows experience index score

Try running a memory utility to test the clock speed your RAM is running at.
You might have something slowing it down, a bad module, BIOS setting or
something. My 1GB of DDR2-400 RAM only runs at 200MHz but still scores 4.5.

RE: poor windows experience index score

Hi Latos35,

Something is obviously amiss with your system. My system, although lower in
specs than yours, manages a WEI of 4.2 (limited by the CPU, an AMD Athlon 64
3500+), but scores 5.8 in the memory category. This is with 2 x 1GB of DDR400
running in dual channel mode. My figures, in the order as displayed by the
WEI tool, are 4.2, 5.8, 5.9, 5.4 and 5.9. I suggest that you download the
CPUID utility to see what speed your memory is actually running at. The
current version is 1.44 (link given below). If your system is capable of
running dual channel, is your memory correctly configured for this? If it is,
and you are, are your memory sticks matched? Check the settings in your BIOS
- are all settings relating to memory set to 'Auto'? Does your memory speed
match the FSB?

RE: poor windows experience index score

i just ran the cpuid utility and the results are as follows;
DRAM frequency: 266.7 mhz
FSBRAM : 1:2
-- CAS#latency : 4.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS# delay: 4 clocks
RAS# precharge: 4 clocks
cycle time : 12 clocks
command rate : 2T
I just found out that my system is running in single channel and my
DRAMfrequency settings is set to 533.I am running vista ultimate 32bit and
dont know how to correct this settings. If you have time, can you please help
me configure this correctly?
do appreciate if someone could help
