best antivirus, antispyware and firewall

My PC came loaded with McAfee. My subscription expires soon, and I am
confused about what I should do. In reading other posts, it is apparent that
few people like McAfee. PLEASE tell me what I should use for antivirus,
antispyware and firewall. I realize that nothing is foolproof, but I want
the best I can get!

Re: best antivirus, antispyware and firewall

The best Windows Vista protection suite I have
used is Windows OneCare. Though not free, it
is very comprehensive in preventing malware from
entering into your system. You can try it free
for 90 days: http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm

Re: best antivirus, antispyware and firewall

I have been extremely pleased with Windows Live One Care. My system stays
clean and it doesn't hog resources. I barely know its there, but it does the
job.

If a short list has many, how many does a long list have?

Pepper, Live Onecare is a waste of money.
And that info about it was supplied by a FAKE MVP(Carey Frisch).

Avast Anti-virus is free, low resources use, and Vista 32bit and 64bit
compatible.

Re: best antivirus, antispyware and firewall

Well I'm one of the few that love McAfee. I've never had a virus problem on
any computer I have run it on. On the other hand, my desktop PC has remnants
of a Trojan on it (and is about to be reformatted) that OneCare allowed on.
It blocks the execution of the trojan, but cannot delete or quarantine it
and slows down the system tremendously.

I have also have virus problems in the past when running Norton and AVG.
Lesson learned - the only thing I use now is McAfee - which will also be on
the desktop following the reformat. I am currently using their Internet
Security Suite.

Whatever you decide to use though, make sure you keep it up to date. There
are too many people out there with nothing better to do than to write
viruses.

Re: best antivirus, antispyware and firewall

McAfee is offered free to Comcast customers. There must be tons installed.
I have it loaded on all my machines here and about 2 dozen good client
customer machines. No problems reported or noticed. I keep hearing bad
things about bad AV s/w but McAfee has been working solidly for years for
me. Keep it up to date. I shut it down during the SP1 update, turned it
back on and everything's great.

On the other hand, it seems ever since Peter left Norton has been going down
hill. I've had strange things happen, did all I could to find configuration
setting and finally removed Norton. (with there toll, If I don't have time).
I remove it everythime I come across one now, just on principle. I don't
have time to play with it anymore. And since the alternative works better,
I can look forward once again.
