error message?

Whenever I start my vista ultimate, i get in the very begining the following
error message:

"host process for windows services stopped working"

I say "close" and thats all.

things work fine but I dont want to get this message everytime i open vista.

PS: I have ultimate with sp1 installed.

Re: error message?

Something using rundll32 is not working on startup. You may have the adobe
reader or windows mail starting up and failing due to a corrupt file or the
message store.

Managing your Startup matrix:

Start Orb>Start Search box>msconfig [enter]

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation,
type the password, or click Continue. Then see what is on the Startup tab.
You don't need to restart immediately, but the next time you do you'll get
a dialog saying you've used the Utility. Usually in Vista this will be
blocked by Windows Defender and you'll need to allow it so you can then
tick the box that says in effect, "don't bother me about this again".

Important - Do not use the System Configuration Utility to stop processes.
Instead, use Start>Run>services.msc [enter] and do not stop any services
unless you really, really know what you're doing.

The free Autoruns program is very useful for managing your Startup -

Press <WinKey>+<R> to open the Run dialog, type MSCONFIG and press <Enter>. In the Startup tab, disable all unnecessary items (Instant Messengers, Updaters, Reminder programs, etc). Click OK and allow the system to reboot.

To find the exact one causing this error, you must disable all items in the Startup, reboot, and then enable each entry one at a time, rebooting after each one. If the error comes back, the last one you enabled is the culprit and can be permanently disabled.
