Vista Home Premium Network Capability

Does Vista Home Premium have the capability to set up a client/server private
network? I am trying to set up a Hauppauge MediaMVP device with my pc over a
wired (crossed wire) direct connection and keep getting messages that the
device cannot get an IP address from my pc, altho my network seems to be ok.
Thanks.

In order for a device to get a dynamic IP address, there must be a DHCP
server on the network. In home networks, this is usually done by a router.
In work networks with a server, this is usually done by an actual server
although it can be done with a router there, too. I'm not sure what you're
doing but it seems to me that you probably want to assign static IP
addresses. Your computer would not act as a DHCP server in any case which
is why you're getting that error message. Vista Home Premium cannot act as
a real server, but I'm not sure that you need that anyway.
