Vista - Opening e-mail attachments

I have an HP laptop with office. When I type out a paper in the word
processor and attach it to an e-mail it cannot be opened - even on the same
laptop. Any ideas/solutions? The attachment is in application/octet-stream.

Your email Options probably has a Security tab with the setting to block
some kinds of 'dangerous' attachments.

I have the same problem opening attachments directly from windows mail.
I have looked on several forums and it is clear that the problem is from
an incompatibility between Windows Mail and IE8 in Vista. To the
Microsoft rep: have you resolved this incompatibility and how do I fix
it on my system?

Try looking on the Windows Mail group and Internet explorer groups. Plenty
of solutions there....

Please tell us the version of the application you are asking about,
your OS, Service Pack level
and the FULL contents of any error message(s)

This is a known problem originating with IE8. Copy\Paste the link into the IE8
Browser and open it from there. If that does not suit you then uninstall IE8. The
other IE versions do not have this problem.
