Vista will not restore to earlier time (answer)

Refere to link HTTP://bertk.mvps.org/html/srfail.html This solve is for XP
but works for Vista also. The problem is Norton Virus running. You have to
disable it while you are running restore or run restore in safe mode (Norton
won't be running)

Disabling Norton is not enough. You need to completely uninstall it.

Replace Norton with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender.

Actually the reason some people may have a problem with Norton is by default on the 32 bit systems Norton enables file protection on is files. This does not apply to Vista 64 bit. If you go to the Symantec web site it will tell you you need to disable the Norton file protection for system restore to work properly.

It seems to me that Symantec just doesn't get it. As a house call technician
for our Computer Club, I probably uninstall one Norton installation per
week. There is no excuse for their interferring with normal operating
system operation.

I agree with you the protection of files should be off by default with a warning when you turn it on the it needs to be shut off to do a system restore. Also their technical support is quite bad. The only thing they know is to uninstall the Symantec applications and re-install it.
