| | Lazy Mouse Given the long delay in loading and displaying an application; why does the mouse icon not indicate background activity. I am constantly frustrated by Vista showing NO indication that it is busy loading the application I have just launched. I click on the Windows Live Mail shortcut on my Desktop and I wait...... The screen does not move.... the mouse remains an arrow.... still nothing... Sometimes, I lose patience before the screen actually displays a 'busy' mouse icon and I re-launch the shortcut.... still nothing..... This lack of indication is more pronounced under Vista - as it appears to take so much longer to launch an application. Is there any way to tell Vista to indicate 'busy' AS SOON as it embarks on one of these long, long loads? -- GPC |

| | Re: Lazy Mouse It is only 'busy' if the processor is not able to launch another 'thread' of execution. You probably have a 'duel-core" processor, and it is Not 'busy'. You can effectively launch other threads as you wish. None of these 'long loads' is going to stop the successful launch of anything else you want to do. If you really wanted feedback on process activity, having nothing to do with launch capacity, you would open Task Manager. Beyond that, "Process Explorer" would show you everything (sysinternals app) Get a bigger system, and it happens faster. -- Was this helpful? Then click the Ratings button. | | Re: Lazy Mouse Probably the best thing to do is to consider the purchase of more RAM. Our system has 1GB of RAM, and runs quite well (at least it can run Media Player, Outlook 2007, IE, a stopwatch, Aero, etc. all at once). RAM is cheap. A 1GB stick will set you back $30+, depending on brand (i.e. generic RAM will cost less). |
