Extra disk in Defragmenter, Vista HP.

I opened Select Volumes in Defragmenter as I only want it to run on my C:
drive and I found an extra "disk" listed.

I have, from the top,

(Select all disks)
Vista (C
Removable Disc (D

and then this, \\?\volume{bd14d1e-25b2-11dc-bf36-806e6f6e6963}\

Can anyone tell me why I have this entry and what it means? Also, if it is a
"disk" where can I find it and see what it contains?

Thanks.

vista is an intelligent next generation OS...

it was made by tree swinging monkeys stolen by a Bill Gates expedition to
Africa.

Hi, the strange disk definitely doesn't appear in My Computer. the only
drives listed are C: and D: (when I have D: plugged in.)

As for the back up, I made the recovery discs as soon as I bought the laptop
last year.

I'm not too bothered about the "phantom" drive, just curious, and really I
wouldn't even have discovered it if I hadn't installed SP1 and found the
Select Volumes button in Defrag.

As long as it doesn't appear malignant or have an averse effect on
performance I'll leave it alone.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

Well, my factory image partition is listed as a factory image partition.
I've seen that a disk on my system in the past that had that type of listing
though. The only other thing I can think of is ReadyBoost. Do you use that?
I don't use ReadyBoost anymore and don't have a USB flash drive available to
make this test, so I can't say for sure. Still might be the factory image,
but I'm doubting that right now.

I don't really think it's something to worry about though.

Regards,

Hi Myron, I haven't used Readyboost as Vista has decided my USB flash drive
isn't Readyboost compatible. As you say it probably isn't something to worry
about and to be honest if I hadn't installed SP1 and checked Select Volumes
in Defrag' then I wouldn't even have known about it.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
