| | Win Explorer in Vista - How to set (detail) display info 4 all fol In Win XP I could set the DETAIL display columns and have is apply as the default for all folders. This saves me setting tha same info over and ovar again. (1) Can Ido the same in Vista - Windows Explorer? (2) Where do I need to go to invoke a system wide default for all folders? I have attempted to do this in Win Explorer / "File-Folder Content Header by right clicking then selecting More... then checking & arranging the Headers I wish to see. But this only works for only the one folder highlighted. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE NAME / SIZE / MODIFY DATE / CRESTE DATE & TYPE FOR ALL FOLDERS DISPLAYED IN THE DETAIL VIEW. Trying to figure how to do this? ON the way to finding this location I searched the postings with the search phrase "WINDOWS EXPLORER FILE CONTENT DISPLAY SETTINGS" "WINDOWS EXPLORER DISPLAY SETTINGS" "WINDOWS EXPLORER" Over 90% of the offerings were about Internet Explorer issues. I am trying to use Microsofts "key words" but the search engines do not seem to understand. I used the same 3 search arguments in VISTA Windows Help and Support. Any thoughts on whhat terms to use? Thanks -- Steve Chobot |

| | Re: Win Explorer in Vista - How to set (detail) display info 4 all fol 1. Open Windows Explorer and then open a folder that displays everything in "Detail" like you want all the other folders to be. 2. Click on the Organize menu. 3. Click on Folder and Search options. 4. Click on the View tab. 5. Under Folder Views, click on Apply to Folders. | | Re: Win Explorer in Vista - How to set (detail) display info 4 all fol Right-click in the folder background, select 'Customize' and make sure you are using the 'All Items' template. Set the columns the way you want. Then click: 'Organize' -> 'Folder & Search Options' -> 'View' tab -> 'Apply to Folders' This will set your preferred view mode for folders that use the 'All Items' template. The same can be done with the other templates (Documents, Pictures & Video, etc). If you open a folder and it's displaying icons & the column headers are photo related, right-click in the folder background, select 'Customize' and select the 'All Items' template. To override content-sniffing, where Windows 'guesses' the folder content & applies a template, add the following to your registry: Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell Value 0 Name: FolderType Type: REG_SZ Data: NotSpecified Here's a link to a .reg file you can merge if you prefer that to manually editing the registry. http://home.mchsi.com/~k.miller79/Re...tSpecified.reg -- Good Luck, Keith Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] "Steve C" <Steve@xxxxxx-sjc.com> wrote in message news:466A1BBC-1303-47F4-8BA5-8F85B7AAEB03@xxxxxx Quote: > In Win XP I could set the DETAIL display columns and have is apply as the > default for all folders.
