| Guest | SP1 doesn't fix "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." Ready toput my fista through vista! LAME LAME LAME! All excited to find Vista SP 1 to finally get rid of frequent "Windows Explorer has stopped responding" errors? Don't hold your breath. I just sat through an hour install over my Vista Home Premium x32 with baited breath only to start breathing fire as 5 minutes into my experience with SP1 has left me in exactly the same position. Does anybody else still have this problem? |

| Guest | Re: SP1 doesn't fix "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." Ready to put my fista through vista! What's the fault information for this crash according to the Problem Reports and Solutions Center control panel? http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket will help you look that up if you don't know how. It's extremely unlikely that Microsoft would ever be able to fix every cause of induced crashes on your system without simply locking the system down so you can't plug anything at all in. While Explorer itself goes through massive testing (and when errors slip through, QFEs and that sort of thing cover the failures), it's easily possible for third parties to plug into Explorer, and most of those don't have the kajillion hours of testing that Explorer gets before it ships. =( -- Speaking for myself only. | Guest | Re: SP1 doesn't fix "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." Readyto put my fista through vista! Thanks for the humble curiosity. I realize a clean system does not have the crashes, but it's not like Windows Explorer is being closed by malware. Would it bother to report the crash if that were the case? I would expect it to handle itself a little better given all the security and UAC. Not to mention I've heard this complaint in several forums about several different systems. I've tried clearing out malware several times. It would be nice to do a repair install off a disc. Of course PCs don't come with discs any more - just recovery partitions - and any attempt to repair install using an OEM disc will invalidate my ASUS Vista activation key. Eek and now I find that the search context menu has been taken out? I see forums that confirm it. Unacceptable :-( Sorry, but I'm backing out SP1. Thanks for monitoring the feedback though. | Guest | Re: SP1 doesn't fix "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." Readyto put my fista through vista! Sorry I missed this. And I hate to be a brat in this post. I'm settling down now (breathe..) haha. Interestingly enough, the bucket changed after Vista. Not sure if there is a different checksum involved or what, but before SP1 the info was: Problem signature Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Explorer.EXE Application Version: 6.0.6000.16549 Application Timestamp: 46d230c5 Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll Fault Module Version: 6.0.6000.16386 Fault Module Timestamp: 4549bdc9 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00042e7b OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 8d13 Additional Information 2: cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311 Additional Information 3: 8d13 Additional Information 4: cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311 Extra information about the problem Bucket ID: 529202582 After SP1: Problem signature Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: explorer.exe Application Version: 6.0.6001.18000 Application Timestamp: 47918e5d Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll Fault Module Version: 6.0.6001.18000 Fault Module Timestamp: 4791a7a6 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00047dd2 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: fd00 Additional Information 2: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 Additional Information 3: fd00 Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 Extra information about the problem Bucket ID: 636205138 Thanks J Quote: > What's the fault information for this crash according to the Problem Reports > and Solutions Center control panel? > http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket > will help you look that up if you don't know how. |

| Newbie | Re: SP1 doesn't fix "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." Ready toput my fista I share your pain. Every problem I reported to Microsoft via their Customer Experience thingy or whatever it was called is unresolved in SP1. Dud links that don't work, IE crashing, Explorer hangs itself every time I try to pick up a folder and move it etc ad infinitum. I thought being part of the feedback process might pay dividends. Of course not. I wasted my time only to have more of my time wasted by an inadequate OS. Good Luck. |

| Guest | Re: SP1 doesn't fix "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." Ready toput my fista through vista! Hi Clarky Yes I still have the same problem with Explorer after installing SP1, I also now have a situation where Vista appears to start normally but then stops responding after a few minutes, I gave up after 12 minutes this morning, it appears that switching it off, rebooting in safe mode then restarting clears the problem but it's a PAIN. I have a support request in to Microsoft. Jill -- bandjt Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

I've been using Vista since it was released to the public and I've never had Windows Explorer crash or fail to respond. But then again, I only have two IE Add-ons and I don't use incompatible software and/or improper configurations. Maybe I'm just lucky. Also, in the same time period, I've only had IE fail to respond one time. C.B. -- It is the responsibility and duty of everyone to help the underprivileged and unfortunate among us. |

What's the fault information for those crashes according to the Problem Reports and Solutions Center control panel? http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket will help you look that up if you don't know how. If a response is available for your crash, you'll get a response upon Check for Solutions. Otherwise, the error gets compiled and queued for analysis when submitted. I pretty regularly help resolve these issues - they certainly do get looked into. -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. If I bet you that you had HHD Software's Hex Editor on your system, would I be right? I'm betting strongly that that's on your system. What do they say about this crash? If you remove that Hex Editor from your system, does this crash go away? I bet it does. =) Cheers, -Zach -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. | Guest | Re: SP1 doesn't fix "Windows Explorer has stopped responding." Ready to put my fista through vista! Yes exactly the same, I thought that maybe my programs I had for XP might work but no! WMP would not open either but OK with SP1 uninstalled. I also thought we might get the filmstrip like we used to in XP, but no. Maybe SP2 might be better but I won't hold my breath. I also get Windows Explorer not responding, as a matter of fact I get that all the time. I changed to Firefox from IE but still get the same thing with that. What's good about Vista? Could someone tell me? <boeroboy@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:827a8756-1734-44f3-a4bc-3a4a13cb1e05@xxxxxx Quote: > LAME LAME LAME!
