| | VSP1CLN did not remove all prior hotfixes Prior to installing SP1, I had all window updates applied to my system. Using WindowsUpdate, I downloaded SP1 (66MB) and installed without errors. At this point I had 64 updates listed in the control panel (installed updates). A week later, everything was working well, so I ran VSP1CLN. It removed a lot from the WinSxS folder and removed the SP update listed in the control panel (installed updates). This left 63 updates. Why didn't VSP1CLN also remove these older uninstall folders and files? Since SP1 will never be uninstalled, then these old update hotfixes should never be uninstalled. So how can I get the UnInstall files for these updates off my system and free up disk space? |

| | Re: VSP1CLN did not remove all prior hotfixes When Vista SP1 is installed, it only installs the components that have not been installed by prior updates. So the cleanup utility will only remove those items that Vista SP1 itself, it won't touch the ones updated/archived by prior updates. You can manually remove the other files and remove uninstall data from the Registry but this is not a recommended procedure. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] rgharper@xxxxxx * NEW! | | Re: VSP1CLN did not remove all prior hotfixes On my XP systems I would clean out older uninstall data from the files and registery, but I have not found any 'programs' or methods for doing this in Vista. Can you give me a pointer or info of how to do this is Vista? "Richard G.
